Props
Car
A car needs to be used in our horror trailer because that's the main transport that is used to take the girls from one place to the house where they get tortured. It's also used to show that the girl is being taken away from her friends in the nightclub to go home. This shows that she is vulnerable. By using a car it shows that as a form of transport that anybody could drive, there are always possibilities of things going wrong. UPDATE - We used the car to show Matt in it and thats the transport he uses to abduct the particular girls; we used the car to portray the same purpose we had aimed for before - it is now just used in a different context. |
Mobile Phone
A mobile phone needs to be used to show that our horror is in the 21st century. By a phone being used it allows the audience to feel that the character has someway of contacting someone if they need help, but in contrast all the latest technologies only have a certain percentage of battery - showing that they are in fact all alone. The mobile phone is used for the taxi driver to contact the girl when he is outside to give her a lift home. UPDATE - We removed this prop. |
Torture Table/Chair
A torture table is used for the main nerdy man to torture the various girls that he has in captive. We chose this specific item to indicate that the girls have no way of escape or can't even get him to stop by pushing him away. By their hands and feet being tied to the table it shows that they are restrained and the male has them right where he wants them. This item is in the man's house to show that he is quite messed up to have an item like that in your own home. UPDATE - We used a torture chair instead, so used the same context that people are being tortured but now just in a chair instead. Also it is only one girl who is being tortured in this, not several. |
Computer
A computer is used for the main nerdy man to look up the girls and contact them; it also links into the 21st century aspect. On the computer it allows the male to research anything and look up whatever he desires. This includes the girls profiles looking through their photos and their life so he can see where they are going or where they are. The computer is in his house which is normal for an everyday item in the 21st century, most homes have one. By using Facebook and Twitter it allows the audience to be included as our specific audience will probably be using social media in their daily lives, this will also give the audience a sense of feeling the victims would be around their age group, we believe this also involves the audience more. |
Knife
Our main character is going to brush a knife against the victim's skin; our trailer is going to be surrounded by multiple torture techniques so not only will this knife be shown in it's main aspect of a sexual theme, there could also be glimpses of it being shown for different styles of torture. This weapon may be our mostly used weapon as it demonstrates how. |
Fake blood
We will have to produce several different types of fake blood, this won't be a main aspect of our trailer but we will have little glimpses of the blood that will be caused from the torturing of our main character. The different types of blood will be shown at different times in the trailer depending on the style of torture. |
Scrapbook
This scrapbook will be used for the man to jot down notes alongside the pictures of the individual girls he wishes to target. The notes could be including things he may wish to do them or ticks/crosses from when he has already killed that specific girl off - with the girls he has already tortured and killed they have a big black cross through their photos to show he has accomplished his aim. Some of the photos in this scrapbook will resemble the acts he wishes to perform on them and there will be some targets on their bodies of where he is going to do that; also some eyes scraped out with scissors/a scalpel. UPDATE - We removed this prop. |
Sofa
Whilst in the man's 'home' the girls are sat on the sofa before they are victimised. The sofa should also be usually seen as a place of comfort whereas we are using it in our trailer to resemble their last comforting item. However, this sofa will also be used in a negative way; that will also represent how the man is then going to act throughout the trailer as he is going to grip the edge of the sofa showing he has strength against the girls when he is talking to the girls. UPDATE - We removed this prop. |
Apron
Our main character will wear this to show the mess he plans to be in after torturing the girls. This will be a clean apron when the girls arrive, representing the innocence of the girls. Resembling how doctors would wear an apron in an act of helping someone whereas in our trailer it's used to show his evil and what he is capable of - this is the opposite of how it is usually used. UPDATE - We removed this prop |
Rope
We have chosen to use rope as a form of restraint. The girls will wake up tied up and this will be our method of doing so; rope is a good prop to use in this situation as rope burns and this could be seen as another way of torture. We will also then use our makeup to show these burns/cuts. UPDATE - We used this prop to strangle and hang Jade (this is how she dies). |
Lock/Bolt
We've chosen this to emphasise how trapped the girls are once they enter the man's home and it represents the need for them to escape. This is a typical representation that they have no means of survival. Which again ties into our idea of the audience feeling a sense of immediacy for the girls' safety. The use of a lock/bolt instead of an ordinary key also resembles the extraordinary man our main character really is - with his choice of props. |
Tape
We used tape in our trailer to cover the victims mouth. We used the tape in two shots and this was to keep them from screaming. This is a good prop because it presents the vulnerability, and shows that they are weaker than the killer. It also shows them struggling and the inability for them to escape. |
